Melanated Venture Scouts is intentionally designed to introduce black and brown youth ages 13–21 to nature, leadership, and community in a way that feels safe, structured, and empowering. The program serves teens and young adults across this age range through developmentally appropriate activities that support growth, confidence, and connection. This page outlines how the program works, what youth will experience, and what parents and guardians can expect along the way.

Education Through Experience

Venture Scouts serves youth within defined age ranges to ensure activities are developmentally appropriate and engaging. Participants are grouped in ways that support peer connection, teamwork, and confidence-building.

No prior camping or outdoor experience is required to join.

Venture Scouts focuses on education through experience. Youth are introduced to outdoor skills and nature education while also developing leadership, teamwork, and confidence. Activities encourage responsibility, problem-solving, and collaboration, alongside community service and environmental stewardship. Cultural connection and representation are woven throughout the program so participants feel seen, supported, and empowered.

All activities are age-appropriate, beginner-friendly, and rooted in care.

Structured Agenda

Venture Scouts operates through organized sessions, outings, and workshops that balance education, exploration, and personal growth. Activities are planned in advance and facilitated by adult leaders to ensure consistency, safety, and meaningful engagement.

Youth participate in:

• Regularly scheduled meetings or outings

• Guided outdoor activities and skill-building sessions

• Group-based learning experiences

Clear communication is an essential part of the Venture Scouts experience. Parents and guardians can expect advance notice of activities and outings, clear guidance on what youth should bring, and timely updates regarding schedule changes or special events. Our goal is to ensure families feel informed, prepared, and comfortable at every stage of participation.

Venture Scouts is designed to be accessible while encouraging consistent involvement. Regular participation helps youth build stronger relationships, confidence, and skills over time.
