Frequently Asked Questions

What is GoMelanated?

GoMelanated is the hosted group travel arm of Melanated Adventurers. These are curated trips planned, organized, and led by us, where you book once and travel as part of a group experience.

Who are GoMelanated trips for?

GoMelanated trips are designed primarily for Black travelers and other underrepresented communities who want to explore nature and new places in a space that feels affirming and community-centered. Our trips are welcoming to all who respect our mission and values.

Do I need to know anyone before joining a trip?

No. Many people join solo. GoMelanated trips are designed to foster connection, so you’ll meet others naturally throughout the experience.

Are these trips beginner-friendly?

Yes. You don’t need prior camping, travel, or outdoor experience. We provide structure, guidance, and clear communication throughout the trip.

What does “hosted” mean?

Hosted means we plan the itinerary, coordinate logistics, guide the group, and are present throughout the experience. You’re never left to figure things out on your own.

What’s included in a GoMelanated trip?

Each trip listing clearly outlines what’s included. Generally, trips include group coordination, planned activities, and hosted experiences. Lodging, transportation, and meals vary by trip and will always be stated upfront.

What’s not included?

Personal expenses, travel to and from the destination, and optional activities not listed in the itinerary are typically not included. Each trip page will clarify this

How do payments work?

You reserve your spot by paying a deposit or full amount, depending on the trip. Some trips may offer payment plans. All payment details and deadlines are shared before booking.

Can I cancel or get a refund?

Cancellation and refund policies vary by trip and are outlined on each trip page. Because these are group experiences with secured logistics, refunds are typically limited after certain deadlines.

Is transportation provided?

Transportation details vary by trip. Some trips may include group transportation, while others require you to meet at the destination. This will always be clearly communicated.

What are the accommodations like?

Accommodations vary by trip and may include camping, glamping, cabins, shared lodging, or hotels. Details are provided on each trip listing.

Will there be free time?

Yes. While trips are structured and hosted, we intentionally build in downtime so you can rest, explore, or recharge at your own pace.

What if I have dietary needs or accessibility concerns?

We do our best to accommodate dietary preferences and accessibility needs when communicated in advance. Please share any concerns during booking so we can plan accordingly.

What’s the group size like?

Group sizes vary by trip but are intentionally kept manageable to support connection and comfort. Each trip listing will note the expected group size.

Is GoMelanated safe?

Creating a respectful, supportive, and welcoming environment is a priority. All participants are expected to follow our community values and code of conduct.

How often are trips announced?

Trips are announced periodically based on season, location, and availability. The best way to stay informed is to join our mailing list or follow us on social media.
